Hi guys, sure we all are doing great, I have had to procrastinate this post for a while now, but guess what, “you are reading it on your phone already”.
Straight into business, I would love to ask, when you think of Sodom and Gomorrah, what comes to your mind?
God’s wrath and fiery judgment? OR God is out to destroy sinners?
The truth is that God was not all out to judge the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. He was not on a sin hunt. He was, in fact, on a righteousness hunt. SELAH!!
If God was on a sin hunt, He would not have allowed anyone to stop Him. But we know that He let Abraham in on what He was about to do and even allowed Abraham to entreat Him.
Abraham asked God if He would destroy Sodom if He could find 50 righteous people there. God’s reply was, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.” (Genesis 18:26) Abraham then asked God if He would destroy the city if there were only 45…40…30…or 10 righteous. And each time, God’s reply was that He would spare the place for the sake of the righteous.
We all know that Abraham stopped at 10, But I am of the believe that If he had gone down to just one righteous man, God’s reply would have been the same because He was on a righteousness hunt.
Now, if God was not all out to destroy then, how much more today, when God has already judged our sins in the body of His Son? Under a new and better covenant. At the cross, Jesus exhausted all of God’s fiery judgments until there was no more fire of God’s wrath left for us, Guess what he said afterwards “IT is finished”.
Today, God is not judging us for our sins because He has found the righteousness of the one Man—Christ Jesus. So do not let anyone tell you that God judges you for your sins and punishes you with cancer, car accidents, business failures or brokenness. God would be unjust if He punished the same sins twice—in Jesus’ body and then in yours.
Have you ever felt condemned because of the bad thoughts you have had? You could be praying suddenly a dirty thought enters your mind. Actually, it is the devil who puts such thoughts in your mind. Then, he steps back, looks at you and knocks you on the head, saying, “How can you call yourself a Christian and still think such thoughts?”
You see, God wants us to bring “every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”. Now, we are to focus on Christ’s obedience and not our own obedience!
What is “the obedience of Christ”? It is His obedience at the cross, where “by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous”. (Romans 5:19) Jesus shed His blood for us at the cross. This means that when our thoughts condemn us, we are to focus our thoughts on Jesus’ obedience at the cross.
Dear friend, the devil can only make inroads into our minds when he gets us to focus on our obedience instead of Christ’s obedience. His strategy is to point us to our obedience or the lack of it to determine our standing before God. But just as our position as sinners is not based on what we do, but what the first Adam did, in the same way, we are forever righteous today not because of what we do, but because of what Christ did on the cross.
So the next time your thoughts seem to condemn you, say; “I am righteous and my righteousness has nothing to do with my obedience. Jesus’ obedience at the cross made me righteous.”
Yes, all God is looking for is a righteous man but guess what, Jesus is that righteous man, so God doesn’t see you, all he sees is Jesus, that is why we pray in the name of Jesus, Remember, “the name of the Lord (Jesus) is a strong tower, the righteous runs into it and they are saved”. Now, for someone to run into something or someplace, that means there is an opening and space for a someone to stay. This same Jesus decided to be our ticket of righteousness into this same name that is a strong tower. Halleluyah!!
Dear Beloved, God is on a righteous hunt and not in search of sinners, And Just like God wouldn’t have destroyed Sodom because of one right standing man (Abraham), God Can not destroy us because of one right standing man (Jesus).
God is so kind that He had to come as a man to Save Mankind
N.B: The gospel is not just good news, it is an almost too good to be true News, i.e E remain small we no for believe am.
